  • The day the adjectives ran out for Sri Lanka   August 3 (Gareth Jayawardene ) The opening game of the 1999 World Cup between Sri Lanka and England was played on the 14th of May. In terms of Numerology, the date 14.4.1999 is ``day 2'' (14+5+1+9+9+9 = 47. 4+7 = 11, 1+1 = 2. On ``day 2'' it is virtually impossible to beat a country influenced by the 3rd Planet, Uranus. England, like Australia is influenced by the 3rd Planet. As stated in my earlier article, the 6th digit strongly favour countries under Uranus and this was evident in the match between Sri Lanka and England. [more...]

  • Some observations on Sri Lanka's World Cup failure   July 23 (Herby Jayasuriya ) The World Cup is now over. There has been a great deal of criticism against the Sri Lanka cricket team that played in this cup. Some individuals have completely slated the manner in which the side was selected. Some have criticised the way that the Sri Lankan cricketers performed in England. I do not think there were any articles that were written which gave any respite to our cricketers. [more...]

  • Ranjan Madugalle - Referee for Final   June 19 (Sa'adi Thawfeeq ) MANCHESTER, Friday, Former Sri Lanka captain Ranjan Madugalle will have the honour of officiating as International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee of the 1999 World Cup final at Lord's on June 20. Madugalle was one of six match referees on duty during the tournament, and it will be a great honour for him to be officiating in that capacity at the home of cricket, when the two best team's in the competition compete for the richest prize in one-day cricket. [more...]

  • What Happened in 1999?   June 18 (Malsiri Kurukulasuriya ) In the past days and weeks, Sri Lankans have indulged in one of their favourite pastimes: That of criticising others. The venom was directed at our cricket team. Much of it personal, while others covered the full gamut from the CEO to the physiotherapist. [more...]

  • Beyond the boundary - Dreams, Torn And Tattered   June 15 (Shakil Kasem ) It has been a long month. Four teams have now finally reached the business end of England 99. They have braved the best opposition that the world had pitted against them, they withstood the miseries of a cold wet English summer, and they even managed to defeat the complicated points system. On the flip side, some of them have paid back the bookmakers' trust in them. Three more days remain, by the end of which the world will crown the new kings of cricket. [more...]

  • In good times and in bad....   June 15 (Athula Senanayake ) As the cricketers and the authorities get lampooned from all directions, I think it is only fair that some consideration is given to the following It was virtually this team that won us the World Cup in 1996, a feat that we had not dreamt of before that tournament. Remember also the various tournament victories and the tremendous tour of England last year. They put us on the map and made those sooty cricket pundits twist their tongues around their surnames. The cricketing world for once knew that we could not be ignored and granted us immeasurable amounts of publicity at a time when Sri Lanka was in dire need of a positive image. [more...]
