Beats the slog sweep and hits the back leg. Given lbw right away, reviewed. Full and floaty at 76ks, landed around middle and leg and straightened. Went below the bat. Nothing on Hotspot or Snicko. Hawk-Eye shows it's hitting top of middle
Australia vs West Indies, 2nd ODI at Sydney, AUS v WI, Feb 04 2024 - Match Result
AussieFan: "11 game winning streak for Oz since the World Cup loss against SA!" They have the chance to extend that run and clean sweep West Indies in Canberra. That's just a couple of days away. See you then. Thanks for tuning in tonight, hope you had fun.
Steven Smith, Australia captain It was a nice finish. Challenging start, WI bowled well, was a tricky surface. Late-middle order played well. I thought 250 was about par, then we did really well with ball. Frase looked like he was enjoying himself. Sutho was really good, bashed it on a length. Nice to see them debut. Canberra is a nice wicket, hope to
Shai Hope, WI captain I thought we stuck to our guns with the ball. Must commend our bowlers. 258 wasn't too much. Challenging wicket, Aussies bowled well. We need to find ways to score more freely. We have to win one, that's the plan.
Sean Abbott, POTM The situation I found myself in, we had to be risk free. We thought 220 would be competitive but were very competitive with partnerships taking it over 250. It's a hard attack to get into with the bowlers around. They're very good to put it lightly. It's such a good environment that your cricket is moving forward. I've been enjoying it. Love getting out there and playing in front of a home crowd. I got only game in the WC, lot of game time before, certainly allowed me to get into the nets and train in different conditions. Staff have helped me train as well. It's been a pleasure.
9:36pm Australia's 83-run win helps them clinch the series. Sean Abbott starred with the ball like he did earlier with bat. West Indies were in with a chance when they had 91 for 5 but the hosts stitched decent partnerships regularly to finish with 258 on a pitch where 220-odd seemed par. The chase had to start well if the visitors were to be in with a chance. But Hardie and Hazlewood removed the inexperienced openers within the first five overs. Kjorn Ottley looked solid at times but tried to drive Abbott up and over cover and got nicked off. Hope was solid but with 29 off 65, it was real slow. Keacy Carty was more brisk, he stitched a decent stand with the skip but Abbott again got his man.
Pulls the slightly short ball to mid-on from outside off
Full outside off, 84ks, pushed to cover
Slip in
Darren gets his head in the hornet's nest - "I'm not Rodney Hogg but the Windies ODI team looks rather hopeless"
Lumped straight of mid-on. Full outside off, Thomas crouches and swipes across. Abbott finishes with 3 for 40.
Yorker on middle, jammed off the toe of the bat to the right of the bowler
Tucks the back of lengther to the leg side
Thomas charges down and Abbott goes into the pitch, pace on, it's ballet-pulled off the bottom-half of the bat
In the air, goes wide to the left of cover. Hard to tell from the telly if Green there was anywhere close. Angle from behind the keeper shows it was closer to mid-off, goes between both
Length on fourth, punched off the back foot to point
Around
Full ball spins in towards off, beats the sweep and hit on the knee-roll. Lbw not given, Zampa shook his head straight away. Impact and wickets umpire's call says Hawk-Eye
Googly lands around off on a fullish length and rags past the outside edge of the full bat
Fullish ball on leg gets good bounce, tucked off the back foot to square leg
Full on leg, clipped to square leg
Seven things happened within the time Motie started to paddle and finished with a reverse. The low full toss took the outside edge, went into the pitch and through where Steven Smith was at first slip. He'd moved to the left in anticipation
Length on fourth, spins in towards off and is blocked to the bowler
Full ball darts in towards leg and beats the front-foot flick
Stunning one hander from Green at midwicket. He flew low and got his left hand out. Managed to keep the palm above the turf. Third umpire's checking. He asks for a zoomed picture and is convinced with what he sees. Out given. Was a length ball at the pads which hurried Chase and cramped him for room as he flicked. Ball went high off the sticker and Green got it almost with a left-arm-orthodox bowler's grip
Full on middle, tries driving straight. Goes through the thick inside edge
Length just over off stump, opens the bat face to run it past the right of backward point. Marnus dives and falls on his belly. Holds onto the flank, where he may have felt discomfort
Fullish ball on leg, worked to midwicket's right
