Predictably enough, the South Zone Ranji Trophy league match between
Kerala and Andhra ended in a close finish at the Regional Engineering
college ground in Kozhikode on Saturday with the hosts winning by
three wickets.
Andhra, 169 for eight overnight, were all out for 179. KST Sai who was
injured did not bat. Sunil Oasis took the last wicket to finish with
five for 27.
Kerala required 162 runs for victory. They were off to a good start
with opener MP Sorab (52) and S Shankar (30) putting on 62 runs for
the second wicket off 20.3 overs. Kerala lost wickets at regular
intervals but Sorab stood firm until he was fifth out at 122. He faced
118 balls and hit five fours. There was some excitement however as two
more batsmen were dismissed and the Kerala score was 141 when the
seventh wicket fell. Suresh Kumar at No 9 however played some bold
strokes and hit 19 off 20 balls with three hits to the ropes and
Kerala were home without any further loss. Kerala got eight points and
Andhra nil.
