Graham Rose and Mike Burns put up a partnership that took Somerset from 153 for 5 after lunch on the final day to 362 for 8 declared at the close of play in the county championship match at Taunton. This enabled Somerset to gain four batting points thereby taking the match tally to 11 points while the opponents Durham took 10 points from the drawn match. There was no chance of a result after rain washed away five sessions of play during the first three days.
The day did not start well for the hosts as they lost Rob Turner to John Wood, Keith Parsons to Nick Phillips and Peter Bowler to Steve Harmison for a personal score of 31, after rain delayed the start.
But Burns and Rose batted beautifully to make 89 balls and 102 respectively. But the fall of Rose's wicket made Jamie Cox, the Somerset captain to declare thereby stopping Durham to gain an extra bonus bowling point.
