17 to win off the last over. Abdul Samad hits a six on the second ball before Sandeep's near yorkers bring it down to five to win off one and with a last ball wicket Sandeep and Royals think they have won! They're celebrating and the Jaipur crowd is dancing in the stands.
But the last ball is a no-ball! Sandeep has overstepped by miles. More drama on the last ball when Samad smokes a six down the ground with four to win and the home crowd as well as the home team is stunned and frozen!

Chahal gets Klaasen, tense finish coming up?

Klaasen was going all guns blazing and Chahal had two overs left with five to go in the innings. Chahal comes on for the 16th and Klaasen smokes him for 6 and 4 before falling to him. Chahal then bags the big wickets of the well-set Tripathi and Markram in the 18th over to put Royals further ahead in the equation.
42 required from 12. Phillips still out there. Chahal finishes with 4 for 29 and goes level with Dwayne Bravo's tally of 183 for most wickets in the IPL.

As soon as Klaasen walks out, SRH take off! They are of course helped by M Ashwin's full tosses which are dispatched for full tosses by both Klaasen and Tripathi, and another boundary makes it a 19-run over.
79 from 36 now. R Ashwin has been subbed out for McCoy.

Fifty and gone!

33 Just like Samson, Abhishek's fifty has come off 33 balls
The required rate is rising every over even though Abhishek and Tripathi are trying to find the boundaries but not with required success. In R Ashwin's last over, Abhishek sweeps him for an off-balance six and when he tries to go big again, he gets a thick edge to short third for 55 for 34.
One of the hitters finally walks out of the SRH dugout, and it's Heinrich Klaasen (SR of 183 this IPL). They need 98 from 42. R Ashwin is done, one left for Sandeep and two for all others. McCoy comes on as the Impact Sub in the break so he can also bowl now. Here's also a match-up of sorts: Klaasen vs Chahal in all T20s: 83 off 37, two dismissals.

Sunrisers eye a lift in temp

The ninth over of Rajasthan's innings saw their innings get a shot in the arm when Samson and Buttler took on Markande. It's the 10th over of this that might turn things on. With plenty if firepower to come, the message from the SRH think-tank during the just finished time out might have been to up the tempo.
As soon as M Ashwin comes on, Tripathi swings him down for a six before Abhishek laps him for four behind square on the leg side for four in a 14-run over. The asking rate is still over 12 an over but we might see more intent from the batters now.

More than 12 an over for SRH

Sunrisers have a lot of firepower in their middle order but it could be they are leaving too much for too late. Anmolpreet opened today along with Abhishek Sharma, and started off with a flurry of boundaries, including a six in the second over, but he was smartly removed by Chahal for 33 off 25, luring him into a sweep with protection in the deep after beating him a few times on the off side.
Tripathi at No. 3, SRH 73 for 1 after nine and need 142 from 6 with Markram, Klaasen and Phillips to come.

Samson swings it back

After just 12 runs off the 18th and 19th overs, Samson is at the non-striker's end in the last over, but gets strike straightaway after the first ball. Natarajan is not bowling bad at all and after seeing all those yorkers, Samson ramps him for four before finishing the over with a mighty straight six off a slower ball and then steering an accurate yorker away for four. 17 to end the innings, Samson unbeaten on 66 off 38 and Rajasthan Royals end on 214 for 2. It could have been more had Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar not kept it tight in the 18th and 19th overs.

SRH are fighting back in the last three overs. Natarajan bowls yorker after yorker for a five-run 18th over before Bhuvneshwar swings in a yorker himself, makes Buttler lose his balance and has him on the floor, and signals for a review straightaway for lbw because the umpire doesn't think it's out. It might have been a low full toss but had the impact of a searing yorker and ends Buttler's innings on 95 off 59 balls. Just seven runs from that over and Royals are 197 with one over to go.

Buttler is unstoppable

This is not among the shortest grounds in the tournament and neither is Buttler targeting the shortest boundaries on this ground. With the field spread out, Buttler has been striking a lot of boundaries in the 'V' down the ground over long-on, long-off and through the covers too, when the length is missed even marginally. This partnerships between Samson and Buttler has been rocketing along at over 10 an over, Samson is nearing his fifty, and Buttler his hundred.
Rajasthan Royals 185 for 1 after 17 overs.

Buttler flicks the switch on

32 Balls for Buttler's fifty today
He hasn't looked in great touch for some innings now. Today as well he was ambling along on 20 off 20 while Jaiswal and Samson did the scoring. Something changed in the ninth over when Buttler hit that six and he hasn't stopped since then. He pulled Abhishek for a straight six, drilled him back for a four next ball, and has been picking a boundary every over since then. 20 off 20 to 50 off 32 means he scored those 30 runs off just 12 balls.

Buttler is ambling along to a run-a-ball 20, which means the other batters will have to do the heavy lifting while hoping that Buttler finds his boundary-hitting rhythm soon enough. Samson started out with a late cut and dab that fetched him fours and now he thwacks Markande for back-to back sixes over long-off and the covers, before Buttler ends the over by dispatching a short ball over midwicket for a flat six. 21 runs from the over and Royals are 95 for 1 after nine overs.

Jaiswal takes off. Jaiswal lands

Jaiswal is racing away at more than two runs a ball with a combination of intent and luck both. Buttler hasn't been in good rhythm of late, and Jaiswal has taken on the responsibility of being the only attacker early on in spectacular fashion. He starts with a first-ball four that goes just over mid-on, survives twice in the powerplay with one landing short of fine leg and the other being an inside edge that missed the stumps, and another top edge going for four.
But when he tries to guide a Jansen short ball over short third, he doesn't get the pace on it and finds the fielder. He has done his job with a quick 35 off 18. All rests on their other big batters, who haven't scored much in the last five games.
Rajasthan 54 for 1 after five overs. Samson at No. 3, so Root will be two down most likely.

What's in store when Rajasthan bat?

Jaiswal and Buttler open, as usual, and Samson and Root are padded up. Here is a match-up to watch out for: Buttler vs Bhuvneshwar in T20Is: 43 off 39, five dismissals. In IPL: 45 off 43, no dismissals.
Rajasthan will hop their big batters like Buttler, Samson and Hetmyer step up today. In the last five games, they have averaged 18.60, 17 and 5.60 respectively.

Who is Vivrant Sharma?

Another J&K player for SRH, a 23-year-old batting allrounder who was born in Jammu, bats left-handed and bowls legbreak. He was bought for a whopping INR 2.6 crore in the last auction.
He credits his brother for his sacrifices after their father's death in 2020. While Vikrant, the brother, managed the family business, he inspired Vivrant to focus on his cricket. The rewards were there to be seen soon - Vivrant made his List A debut in February 2021 and a Ranji Trophy debut in late 2022, just before the auction. Here's more on him from our story in December 2020, by Shashank Kishore.

Rajasthan bat; debut for Root and Brook dropped

Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 118 batting first on this pitch two days ago, so why are they batting first again? Because teams batting first have won two of the three games here, and Samson says at the toss that there has been no dew in the second half of games in Jaipur
Samson further says they've had "some honest chats" in the group and not because of the results but seeing the conditions and few niggles, they've made changes. Boult is out, Zampa is out of the XI, M Ashwin comes in as the third spinner, three overseas players in the XI (Buttler, Root and Hetmyer) and they have listed R Ashwin at No. 7.
Rajasthan Royals: JC Buttler, YBK Jaiswal, SV Samson (capt & wk), JE Root, DC Jurel, SO Hetmyer, R Ashwin, Sandeep Sharma, M Ashwin, K Yadav, YS Chahal. Impact sub options: Padikkal, Parag, Holder, Zampa, McCoy
SRH leave out Mayank Agarwal and Umran Malik too, apart from Brook, and hand a debut to Vivrant Sharma, who Markram says has been knocking on the door for a while.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma, RA Tripathi, AK Markram*, H Klaasen†, GD Phillips, Abdul Samad, M Jansen, Vivrant Sharma, M Markande, B Kumar, T Natarajan. Impact sub options: Brook, Anmolpreet, Dagar, Nitish Reddt, Sanvir Singh

All eyes on England players

Jos Buttler averages 18.60 from the last five games, Harry Brook 6.80 from his last five (including two ducks), and there's Joe Root sitting on the sidelines for Rajasthan Royals. A lot of questions around these England batters and even though Buttler is least likely to sit out today, let's see if Royals give Root his first game today, and if Sunrisers continue to show their faith in Brook or leave him out. Even though Royals are fourth on the table and SRH at the bottom, both teams are in desperate need of a win because they've both lost four of their last five games. Update: Root is indeed playing today, as Tom Moody predicted in the preview video above, and he's got his cap from 21-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal. Who makes way for him?
There's also a nice little nugget on Brook in Matt Roller's preview right here, about how Royals nearly got Brook but are now playing against him.
