and a wide seals the win, sliding down leg stump and that a nine-wicket thumping for the Delhi Daredevils, their second in a row
Chargers vs Daredevils, 7th match at Hyderabad, IPL, Apr 22 2008 - Match Result
Daredevils won by 9 wickets (with 42 balls remaining)
An emphatic victory, sealed by Virender Sehwag's 94 from 41 balls. Another stunning innings of power hitting in the IPL. Ten fours and, get this, six sixes. Rohit Sharma did well with a superb innings to lift the Deccan Chargers to 142, but it proved fodder for a charged-up Sehwag. Delhi look the team to be, if I may say so, with a perfect blend of youth and experience. A top-class opening duo of McGrath and Asif proved too much, and Maharoof, Bhatia and Yo Mahesh kept it decent. Subtract the last three overs of Hyderabad's innings, when 52 were scored, and the bowling looks superb. But it all came down to Sehwag's clinically brutal innings. Surely he will be the Man of the Match, and the first Indian in the IPL to get that. He was let off twice early into his innings and made Hyderabad pay.
I'm off for two days - yes! - but do come back and see us tomorrow when we'll bring you the Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians match at 20:00 local, 14:30 GMT. Until next time, this is Jamie Alter, on behalf of Binoy, Raghav and all of us at Cricinfo, signing off. Be well!
Sehwag on 94. Scores are tied. Dhawan on strike. Here's Vaas.
bye bye! Sehwag is unstoppable, just standing his ground and sending Symonds rows back over long-on, and thats a 30-run over which reads like someone's cell number ... 4 6 4 6 4 6 ... and the scores are tied!
oh this is like X-box cricket! Four more, pulled over midwicket, what an over!
good grief, now he's smashed him over cover! Sehwag is on a roll, just stepping aside and carving the ball for another flat six
banged in short, he gets up on one leg and rolls the wrists, pulling into the ground behind square leg and the sweeper running around, Ojha, dives and lets the ball go away
flat six, as Sehwag just picks the length up and carries through with a pull over square leg, lovely stuff
hooooooooooo! Sehwag wants to fly out of Hyderabad as soon as possible, again clearing the front leg and slamming Symonds over extra cover
tossed up on leg stump, Dhawan waits and tucks it to midwicket
skips down and connects this time, driving to mid-on for one
oh thats silly from Gilchrist, who misses the simplest of stumpings after Sehwag is sucked down the track, misses by miles, the ball hits the helmet and runs away
spins away but he gets over it and dabs it to point for one
rubbish bowling, two feet outside leg stump, arm ball gone wrong
spins across Sehwag, who steers it to short third man
bad ball, slipping down leg stump, Gilchrist cant get there
Ojha goes around the stumps
steps miles outside leg stump and slashes the short one to long-off
Pragyan Ojha on for some left-arm spin.
beaten again as he pushes at this one with no footwork, well bowled
cracked off the back foot, a lovely cut through the gap at point
a loud shout, as Dhawan misses pulling a shorter one that pitches just outside leg stump and looks to be carrying on high, a good call that time
beaten this time as he tries to be cute and dab it fine
short again and Dhawan cuts, but this time the fielder gets to it
