a wicket off the last ball, just like for England, and what a massive, massive win! Sandhu came down, yorked herself, and missed the ball for a quick stumping. Ecclestone gets a wicket on the very last ball
ENG Women vs PAK Women, 19th Match, Group 2 at Cape Town, WT20 WC, Feb 21 2023 - Match Result
Presentations coming soon...
Heather Knight: Trying to take some momentum into the semis today. The way our batters played today, it was really good. Very pleased with Danni, the way she was batting in the nets, it wasn't far away. Really pleased for the way she batted. I think so [do they have a XI in mind for the semi-final], lots of options which is really nice. It [the pitch] was good, more pace and carry, and Katherine made use of that nicely. Good to get used to it, haven't played here for a long time so good to be here
Nida Dar: It was not a result we wanted, it was disappointing. We know we were lacking the strength in our batting line-up. We have to learn from these kind of matches, and will take some positives from it. We played two good matches here so will learn something. It's the best time for youngsters to come up and take the challenge. We have Ayesha Naseem, and we should have more talent coming up like that. It's a milestone for me to be the top wicket-taker in T20Is. I want to do the best for my team, that's my goal.
That's all from me, Vishal Dikshit, and Srinidhi. Pretty one-sided game and England showed today they are also looking unstoppable, just like Australia. England and Australia both unbeaten with four wins, England's NRR 2.860 compared to Australia's 2.149. And in a few hours we'll also know who the second semi-finalist is from the other group - New Zealand or South Africa. Until next time, it's goodbye and good luck!
6.02pm Handshakes all around for the England players, with smiles on their faces and pats on their backs. A deflated Pakistan side hangs around in the outfield after congratulating the opponents. What a confidence booster this will be for England before their semi-final against New Zealand or South Africa, we'll know later tonight. Their top order fired with Wyatt back in form, and the explosive middle order, well, exploded again, led by Nat Sciver-Brunt again. What a reliable player she is. Chasing 200-plus was near impossible for Pakistan against a top side like England, that too without Maroof out with an injury, and England's combined bowling effort starting with early wickets sealed the big win.
Nat Sciver-Brunt the Player of the Match: It was alright at the start, their spinners bowled a little slower than ours. We thought the wicket was pretty good. The start from Wyatt was so important, Sophia and Alive have been batting so well so far, and it's so crucial. We'd been building well into this tournament, we hadn't been bowling that well. This was a really good performance.
lebigfella : "A walk in the park for England… I'm comfortable with our batting vs Australia and now with this bowling attack England can really compete. Dunkley "
Eli: "Despite the crushing defeat, Tuba's batting here was something amazing out of nowhere. She had 2 runs in her international career today, and now she just scored 28 off 20?! That's incredible."
Jamie Dow: "Pakistan's final score of 99/9 reads like a call for urgent assistance!"
scythes the slightly wider ball to sweeper cover for one
down the pitch and just past the bowler, Sandhu just makes her ground for the quick single
hurried on the back foot, pushes the ball on the stumps to cover
comes down and middles the drive off the full toss to sweeper cover. They decide against the second properly this time
backs away and heaves, she misses, the ball misses leg, the keeper misses the ball, and it goes for four byes
The last six from Ecclestone
swings the slower ball into the leg side for one
driven down along the ground this time, past mid-on and Katherine sprints to her left, slides near the top and she thinks she has saved two. Looks like Fatima Sana thought it went for four, so stopped running after reaching the keeper's end. tuba wanted a second and kept running, saw Fatima isn't moving, but by the time she could come back, the throw had come in and ran her out. Even Tuba's effort wasn't great, she just jogged back instead of trying to make her ground with a sprint. Horrible confusion there
a slower ball, a swipe down the ground, a catch taken at long-on, but the fielder has crossed over the rope with the ball still in her hands, and it's a six! Katherine the fielder
full length, drilled back and Davies gets a hand to it to deflect it to leg
another high full toss, and Tuba has smacked that away to the left of deep midwicket for a powerful four. Looked above the waist to me, but not given, possibly because she came down the pitch
makes some room and drives it down to mid-off
Arjun: "India and England are the finalists,,, how is it" Possible, just like 2017
opens up to swing on the leg side but misses it completely outside off
some turn as she pitches it shorter around off, and Fatima can only defend it back
full on the stumps and Tuba Hassan drives it to deep cover
a high full toss, outside off, she scythes it to deep cover for one. That was for the height
comes down to make it a full toss and swipes down to mid-on, who fires a throw in to the bowler
yorked on the stumps with a flighted ball drifting in, just manages to block it out
flighted with drift on the stumps, flicked to midwicket
18 balls to go, England set to top the group. Ecclestone has two left
a swing down to long-off with hard hands for one
"I am from India but my finalist are Eng and Aus." Oh, Manav! Hugs to you
