Matt Prior and Will Jefferson provided the backbone for a sturdy team performance, as England A overhauled a competitive target of 262 with five wickets and three overs to spare, in the first unofficial ODI against Bangladesh A at Bogra.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Bangladesh suffered a very early setback when Junaid Siddique was caught by Nick Compton off Stuart Broad for a first-ball duck, but their batting hero was Nazimuddin, who compiled an excellent 108 from 120 balls, with 13 fours and a six.
Wickets did fall at regular intervals at the other end, with Alex Loudon grabbing 2 for 50 with his offbreaks, but when Nazimuddin eventually fell with the score at 179 for 6 with ten overs remaining, Farhad Reza was on hand to slam an impressive 41 not out from 26 balls, with five fours and a six.
In reply, England made a brisk start through Jefferson and Michael Carberry, who added 49 inside eight overs, and they were always ahead of the asking rate. Jefferson clobbered nine fours and two sixes in a 52-ball 68; Prior made 84 from 72, with five fours and three sixes.
At 183 for 5 England had a moment of anxiety, but Steve Davies joined Prior in an unbroken 80-run stand to seal the win.
