Fielding
Chasing & returning:

  • To save runs on the field, chasing and returning is a must. The important points here are that you must run as fast as possible, pick the ball cleanly in one motion and turn to throw it without wasting any time.

  • While chasing run in a line which takes you close to the ball on the side of your throwing arm.

  • Just as you reach it, stop and bend down to pick up the ball. Then pivot, transfer your weight from the back foot to the front foot and throw as accurately as possible.

  • Be careful not to overbalance as you bend to pick up the ball. Once the ball is picked up, it can also be thrown on the run, by jumping and turning in the air and releasing the ball towards the target. When distances are longer, pick up the ball, turn and take a couple of steps before throwing to add power to the throw.
