Tawanda Muyeye had his right to remain in the UK approved by the Home Office in early 2021, shortly before he signed a professional contract with Kent. His family were refugees who left Zimbabwe, where he grew up playing tape-ball games, and he spent some time with the Sussex academy while attending Eastbourne College. His runs led him to be named Wisden's Schools Cricketer of the Year for 2020, and his style at the crease drew plenty of eyeballs on social media. He made his first-class debut for Kent in the 2021 Championship, and declared his intentions to play international cricket for England. Muyeye played five Championship games in 2022 with a highest score of 85 as Kent defeated Somerset by an innings and 151 runs in September. He also broke into the Spitfires' Blast side, scoring 41 against Surrey.
