Like another "KP", Keegan Petersen is an aggressive right-hand batsman but, unlike his namesake, of slighter build and from the western coast of the country. Brought up in Paarl, Petersen played for Boland Under-19s, before being promoted to their provincial side.
He was the leading run-scorer in the first-class three-day competition in 2013-14, scoring 965 runs at 48.25, which included the competition's top score of 225*. He was duly named the Three-day Cricketer of the Year at CSA's annual awards.
Petersen was contracted to Cape Cobras in the 2014-15 season, but only played in two franchise first-class matches that season. He spent that winter at Lancashire's Read Cricket Club.
Petersen enjoyed more game time in the 2015-16 summer with four first-class matches, two one-day cup games and three T20s, but is still searching for a way to nail down a regular place in the starting XI.
