Born and raised in Barbados, Jacob Bethell won a scholarship to Rugby School and joined the youth ranks at Warwickshire shortly after before signing for the club as a 17-year-old at the start of 2021. A spin-bowling allrounder, he made his professional debut in the T20 Blast later that year and helped balance a young side in the Royal London Cup. He made his name, however, as part of the England Under-19 team that reached the World Cup final in early 2022 - in particular with a hard-hitting 88 from 42 balls in the quarter-final against South Africa. He went on to make two appearances for Welsh Fire in that year's Hundred
