Dilshan leads Sri Lanka A in Zimbabwe

The two four-dayers form the core of the tour, as Zimbabwe continue to prepare for the resumption of Test cricket. In line with the ICC recommendation that the Zimbabweans engage A sides from the top Test-playing nations, Sri Lanka become the third country to tour in four months, following in the footsteps of strong-second string sides from India and South Africa.

The Zimbabwe selectors have named a 13-man squad, including a fit-again Sean Williams. However, Hamilton Masakadza is definitely out of the series after having surgery for a finger injury picked up during the second ODI against South Africa in August. He is expected to undergo therapy, which effectively rules him out for about six weeks.

All the players named by the national selection committee were part of the squad for the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa last month, where Zimbabwe sensationally stunned Australia in their Group B opener.

Sri Lanka get the ball rolling with two one-day warm-up matches against a Zimbabwe Provinces side on Friday and Saturday in Harare. The first four-day match starts at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, October 16 and the sides then travel to Bulawayo for the second four-dayer at Queens Sports Club which starts on October 22.

Tillakaratne Dilshan leads a relatively young side - apart form him, only vice-captain Chamara Kapugedera and Nuwan Kulasekera are contracted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
