South Africa A in Zimbabwe 2006-07

Zimbabwe A announce 20-man squad

Warren Carne

January 24, 2007

The 20-man Zimbabwean A squad to play South Africa A in a series of three one-day game series was announced on Tuesday.

Prosper Utseya will captain a side which has two newcomers, the Zimbabwean under-19 allrounder Prince Masvaure and the Takashinga offspinner Tendai Machiri. Both impressed in the recent National Cricket League.

Masvaure put up some gutsy performances with both bat and ball, including a six-wicket haul against Kadoma to lead his Alexandra Sports Club into the semi-final. Machiri has been rewarded for consistency with the ball and a decent economy rate throughout. Machiri was also part of the hugely successful National League side Takashinga who were crowned the Zimbabwean National league champions on Sunday.

The first of the three limited-overs matches starts at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Thursday.
