ENGLAND v SRI LANKA

At Taunton, June 11. England won by 47 runs, giving another confident batting performance. This time it was Gower who played the outstanding innings, hitting five 6s and twelve 4s in 130, which made the loss through run-outs of Gatting and Botham less costly than it might have been. Though batting with spirit, Sri Lanka were never in sight of making the 334 they needed.

Man of the Match: D. I. Gower.
