Profile
Manager of the 1963 West Indies team in England, as well as those to India and Pakistan in 1958-59 and Australia and New Zealand ten years later, Berkeley McGarrell Gaskin died in Georgetown on May 2, aged 71. A medium-pace bowler, he played in two Test matches, against England in 1947-48, with little success. He was already close to his fortieth birthday. He will be fondly remembered for his services as an administrator, having served as Guyana's representative on the West Indies Board of Control and as a Test selector. He was president of the Guyana CA at the time of his death. One of the least palatable tasks which befell him during his managerial days was the sending home of fast bowler Roy Gilchrist from the India-Pakistan tour on disciplinary grounds.
