Mr Vince Hogg has been appointed the new Zimbabwe Cricket Union Managing Director starting from 1 April 2002. He replaces David Ellman-Brown who resigned in January due to family reasons.
A business consultant specializing in Real Estate and property development, Hogg joins the Zimbabwe Cricket Union from a Harare-based estate agency and property-owning company, where he has been the manager and a shareholder.
The 51-year old Zimbabwean has a history of association with the game, dating back from his days as a member of the various national schools cricket teams, starting with the Under 13s in 1964. Hogg went on to play for all the other national age group teams, the South African Schools team Cricket series in 1970 and the Zimbabwe national team from 1972 to 1984.
4 years later Hogg was appointed Convener of Selectors holding the post for six years. He also managed the senior and Under 23 national teams.
Away from the game, Hogg has been Group Operations Director for a leading financial institution and General Manager for a printing and packaging concern.
"Hogg has a proven track record in commerce and industry and brings into his new position, credibility and goodwill shown by the manner he has handled his previous posts", said Peter Chingoka, Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket Union .
"I have worked with Hogg and found him to be fair, firm and friendly and will be of great value to the Union" Peter Chingoka said, relating to Hogg's past association with cricket.
Reacting to his appointment Hogg said, "The Union is committed to development. My history with cricket makes me appreciate why this is so. The Union wants to run this as a viable concern. My experience in business makes me appreciate why and how this will be. There are challenges, but I am out to enhance and maintain win-win scenarios for the country's leading sport - cricket."
Vince Hogg, a 5-handicap golfer, is married and has two children.
As an interim measure, the predecessor to David Ellman-Brown as Chief Executive, Mr Don Arnott, has agreed to be Acting Managing Director until Vince Hogg takes office.
Chingoka concluded, "The Union is very fortunate to have Don assisting in this short period. We are extremely fortunate in this regard and most grateful to Don."
