Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 2014
Wisden's review of the first ODI, Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 2014
At the halfway stage of what had become a 45-over game - the target was revised to 275 after an hour-long shower early in Sri Lanka's innings - Pakistan had looked out of it when Misbah-ul-Haq gloved Rangana Herath to the alert Kumar Sangakkara to make it 106-5. But Fawad Alam was joined by Sohaib Maqsood, who blasted a career-best 89 from 73 balls after a let-off when Sangakkara missed a stumping off Herath. They added 147 in 19.3 overs before Fawad's swirling edge was swallowed by Ashan Priyanjan at third man. Shahid Afridi then slapped the winning four past point with a ball to spare, after two runs had come from the first four deliveries of Nuwan Kulasekara's over. Earlier, Sri Lanka dipped to 75-4 before Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews - with a format-best 89 - put on 116.
