Any hope of play was abandoned at 1pm on the first day of Durham's match against Derbyshire at Chester-le-Street following 24 hours of heavy rain.
It meant off-spinning all-rounder Gary Scott, from Sunderland, would have to wait until tomorrow to become Durham's youngest first-class cricketer 19 days after his 17th birthday.
The previous youngest had been Steve Lugsden who was 17 years 27 days when he made his debut against Derbyshire in 1993. After being released, Lugsden had a season with Hampshire two years ago and now plays for Newcastle in the North-East Premier League.
Scott's registration was rushed through yesterday after Michael Gough was ruled out by a back injury.
Durham also have Nicky Peng, Gary Pratt and Gordon Muchall on England Under-19 duty against the West Indies.
