The United States have named their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in England in September. Richard Staple retains his place as captain of the side, which is dominated by players from Florida and New York, with four coming from each area.
Clayton Lambert, the former West Indies opener, is also part of the squad. Lambert, 42, played five Tests and 11 one-dayers for West Indies, making his last appearances in both forms against South Africa in 1998. He scored both a Test and a one-day hundred for West Indies, and with 22 first-class hundreds, including a double, to his name his experience will prove very useful for USA.
Two other former West Indian internationals, Faoud Bacchus and Kenny Benjamin, will coach the side, who play their first Champions Trophy game against New Zealand The Oval in London on September 10. They will then have the challenge of facing Australia, the world champions, at the Rose Bowl in Hampshire three days later.
Squad: Richard Staple (capt), Nasir Javed, Charles Reid, Zamin Amin, Howard Johnson, Aijaz Ali, Mark Johnson, Leon Romero, Naseer Islam, Rohan Alexander, Rashid Zia, Steve Massiah, Clayton Lambert, Imran Awan.
