Umpires report a second Indian player for suspect bowling action

Following the match between New Zealand and India on Saturday 9 December the umpires have now reported a second Indian player, Purnima Rau, for having a potentially illegal bowling action

Following the match between New Zealand and India on Saturday 9 December the umpires have now reported a second Indian player, Purnima Rau, for having a potentially illegal bowling action.
The umpires, Peter Williams and Peter Parker, were of the opinion that the spin bowler may contravene Law 24.2 and 24.3.
The report stated: "The umpires are of the opinion that the bowling arm was bent but found it difficult to establish from our positions on the field whether there was any straightening prior to the ball being released."
The umpires have bought the matter to the attention of the World Cup Technical Committee with a recommendation that the action be more closely scrutinised and remedial coaching undertaken if necessary.
Tournament Director, Tim Murdoch, said the Indian team management had been advised of the umpires' report.
"As in the first instance, we have advised the team management and will write to the Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) requesting analysis of the action and remedial coaching support as required," Murdoch said.
Purnima Rau will not be prevented from bowling during the CricInfo World Cup. She is the fourth player to be reported by the umpires.
