Glamorgan 229 (Thomas 63, Elliott 51, Tremlett 4-42) and 77 for 1 (Cherry 31*, Hemp 21*) trail Hampshire 401 for 8 dec by 95 runs
Scorecard
Glamorgan have a real battle on their hands if they want to avoid a fifth straight Championship defeat, after being forced to follow-on by Hampshire. Chris Tremlett broke the back of Glamorgan's first innings after they had progressed relatively smoothly to 79 for 1. Tremlett, defying a back injury himself, snapped up three wickets in quick succession while Shane Warne and Billy Taylor also chipped in as Glamorgan slumped to 112 for 6. Robert Croft and Darren Thomas showed some defiance, adding 87 for the seventh wicket before Simon Katich, proving his effectiveness as a partnership breaker, dismissed Croft and David Harrison. Thomas was the last man out for 63 from 69 balls but his efforts were in vain as Glamorgan failed to save the follow on. Tremlett capped his day by knocking over Matthew Elliott before the close. The Hampshire performance was even more noteworthy as they were a bowler short, after Dimitri Mascarenhas was forced to retire hurt with a back injury and did not take the field.
Nottinghamshire 184 (Cook 5-44) and 46 for 1 need 370 more runs to beatKent 301 and 298 for 8 dec (Fulton 51)
Scorecard
Kent are on course for their third Championship win of the season after another dominant day at Trent Bridge. They batted positively in their second innings to set up a declaration late in the day, and then managed to snap up a late wicket to enhance their position. Robert Key and David Fulton opened with 77 to give Nottinghamshire a solid second-innings platform. Fulton was the only player to pass 50, but plenty of his team-mates chipped in with useful innings scored at a decent pace. Darren Stevens hit 47 from 53 balls and the total was boosted by a late stand of 74 between Simon Cook and Min Patel. The Nottinghamshire bowlers tried their best to stem the scoring rate, Samit Patel taking 3 for 73 with his left-arm spin. However, they were left to face 12 awkward overs before the close and lost Darren Bicknell in the last of them, from the bowling of Andrew Hall. Cook had earlier claimed his second five-wicket haul of the season when he wrapped up the Nottinghamshire first innings.
