Steve Tikolo played a captain's innings as Kenya made a competitive total on the opening day of their Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia. Tikolo, who arrived at the crease with Kenya in trouble at 13 for 2, added 151 for the third wicket with Maurice Ouma to turn the innings around.
Tikolo faced 118 balls for his 86 until he was caught off Kola Burger, who was the pick of the Namibian attack with 3 for 35. Ouma fell to Deon Kotze for 63 but the Kenyan total was boosted by useful contributions by the middle order.
Collins Obuya hit 11 fours in an 88-ball 53 and Tikolo was able to declare with an hour left on the first evening to have a crack at the Namibian openers.
They made a positive start to their reply, led by Stefan Swanepoel who moved briskly to 39. Lameck Onyango received some particular harsh punishment as his first over, and only over, was dispatched for 15. However, Tikolo rounded off an impressive display by snapping up JB Burger, caught and bowled, with just a few overs the day remaining.
