Police have warned spectators against unruly behaviour during the final match of the Chappell-Hadlee Series between New Zealand and Australia in Christchurch on Saturday.
"We want the game to be the event, not the crowd," Peter Cooper, a senior sergeant, told NZPA. "We're not trying to stop the fun, but please have some respect for the rest of the crowd who are there to see the game."
He asked the fans who consume alcohol to treat the game with respect after the Australians had beer cans and other objects thrown at them during the first ODI at Eden Park in Auckland. Police also arrested 15 people and ejected 46 from the stadium during the second game at Wellington.
