North America has been invited to take part in the West Indies Regional Ladies Championships to be held under the banner of the West Indies Women's Cricket Federation in Grenada between June 15 and June 29.
The West Indies Women's Cricket Federation is a member of the International Women's' Cricket Council (IWCC) and affiliated with the ICC. It is hoped that Canada women cricketers will shortly be able to be fully functional and participate fully in IWCC activities.
Guyana, St.Lucia, St.Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Jamaica and Grenada as hosts will take part.
Three Canadian ladies have been included in the North American XI. Well known Toronto cricketer Ave Mogan (who has competed for years in the Toronto & District CA men's division), will be joined by sisters Jeanine and Maryse Barrate of Winnipeg. The Manitoba C.A. and their President, John Lovelace who has nurtured this resurgence, have strongly supported this venture and should be commended for their efforts.
The tournament was first held in 1975 and is now played annually. This will be the first invitation to this prestigious event that has been extended to North America.
The West Indies Women's Cricket Federation is making every effort to advance the sport in the Americas. We trust that many more female cricketers from schools through to adults will reinvigorate cricket among women in Canada. Development and participation in major regional provincial national and international events requires a major promotional drive and effort.
The CCA encourages support for these ladies and women's cricket in the form of public and private sponsorship for this and subsequent ventures.
All ladies wishing to participate are encouraged to contact Ms. Ave Mogan, John Lovelace or other cricket teams and associations for inclusion and future participation.
