Charlie Lock, without a wicket or a run on the tour, had his 15 minutes of fame right at the end, with the first five-wicket analysis by a Zimbabwean in one-day internationals. Single-handedly, he removed the last five for five in 11 balls, to give his team their first ever win over New Zealand. "I just bowled straight," he said. That was in sharp contrast to Kennedy, who bowled six wides in one over during Zimbabwe's innings. Morrison had taken three early wickets, but Andy Flower led the recovery, then Streak and Paul Strang added 54 in 40 balls. Chasing 268, Fleming and Twose seemed to have the task under control. Lock, and some fine Zimbabwean fielding, checked their assault. New Zealand's first international day/night game avoided rain, often a curse at Napier, roused high enthusiasm and was a financial success. The downside was ticketing trouble, lighting problems in the outfield, excessive beer-selling and resultant yobbery.
