Mushtaq's five puts Sussex in control

Day three
Mushtaq Ahmed's five-for spun Sussex to almost certain victory against Warwickshire on the third day at Edgbaston. Sussex now need just 80 runs to win. Warwickshire resumed on 88 for 3 and quickly lost their last seven wickets for 52 to leave Sussex a victory target of 270. Richard Montgomerie and Mike Yardy then each made a score in the sixties to lift the visitors to 190 for 4 by the close.

Day four
Scott Styris took 4 for 55 and Jamie Dalrymple 3 for 29 to revive hopes of an astonishing comeback for Middlesex before their game with Durham ended in a draw at Lord's. Middlesex were finally dismissed for an impressive 503 before Stryis and Dalrymple made their way through Durham's top-order, leaving them on 191 for 7. Stryis brought back his strike bowlers but they were unable to make the breakthrough as the match petered out into a lame draw.

Mal Loye posted a century to help Lancashire to a five-wicket win against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. They started the day needing just 76 runs with nine wickets in hand after Iain Sutcliffe's ton set up the win yesterday. Although Lancs lost four wickets for five runs in a late rush to the line, Loye's dismissal triggering the collapse, in truth they were never in danger, as Graeme Swann bagged four wickets in a losing cause.

Marcus North struck a superb 161 for Derbyshire as their match petered out to a draw on the final day against Worcestershire at Chesterfield. Resuming on 222 for 4, Derbyshire needed their middle-order to knuckle down and bat for most of the day to avoid Worcestershire sneaking a win, which North did excellently. He was well supported by Ant Botha who capped a fine allround match with a patient 50.

Robert Croft led from the front for Glamorgan to record a fine 10-wicket win over Gloucestershire at Cheltenham. Croft took 7 for 67 to dismiss Gloucestershire for 244. Only Alex Gidman (66) and Hamish Marshall (53) offered any resistance to Glamorgan, although there were a triplet of twenties from their lower-order before Croft took the final wicket of Steve Kirby to wrap up the innings. This left Glamorgan the simple task of 41 which was disdainfully reached in just four overs: Brendon McCullum smashed 34 of the required runs with five fours and a couple of sixes to take the visitors through by 10 wickets.

Essex and Northamptonshire's game petered out into the inevitable draw at Northampton thanks to Andy Flower's mountainous 274 not out. He helped Essex to rack up 620 in their first innings, in reply to Northants' 660 for 5 declared, Andy Bichel adding a half-century. By stumps Northants had made 77 for 1 in their second innings, Bilal Shafayat the only faller. He made 19.
