Middlesex made a bright start with openers Alleyne and Hutton putting on 74 in 13.3 overs before off-spinner Martyn Dobson pegged them back with three quick wickets.
Wickets fell regularly and the runs dried up mainly due to the accurate seam bowling of Ian Bishop (1-33 off 10 overs) and the immaculate control of off-spinner Chris Brown (1-17 off 10 overs)
A comfortable win looked to be on the cards, as Dawson and Dobson scored freely adding 77 for the first wicket before Dawson fell to a stunning catch by Hutton in Dalrymple's `leg trap'. Running fully fifty yards towards the mid-wicket boundary, Hutton dived full-length with the ball coming over his shoulder to take a one-handed catch inches from the ground.
Inspired by Hutton's catch, Middlesex bowled tightly and gave nothing away in the field. Wickets fell regularly under constant Middlesex pressure. In spite of useful contributions from Howitt, Nagra and Stevens, there were no significant partnerships, and a Middlesex win by 24 runs was achieved in the 49th over.
