Fast bowler Melvyn Betts is to leave Durham despite the offer of an improved contract.
The 25 year old who comes from Sacriston has played all his first class cricket with the county and Club Chairman Bill Midgley said: "It is particularly disappointing that a young player in whom the Club has invested a great deal of time and money in his development has chosen to pursue his career elsewhere.
It is especially sad after Durham had offered him significantly improved terms. We do, however, wish Melvyn every success in whichever club he chooses to join. We, at Durham, remain dedicated to developing and producing a First Class squad from the cricketing talent found in our area."
This season Betts took 44 wickets in the County Championship at an average of 18.90.
