Stuart Matsikenyeri and Vusi Sibanda both scored their maiden first-class hundreds while putting on 241 for the second wicket as the Zimbabwean tourists took firm command on the second day of their match against the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI at Chittagong's Divisional Stadium. They had reached 384 for 3, a lead of 68, by stumps.
Matsikenyeri opened the batting and ended the partnership by retiring once he reached 150, after batting for more than five and a half hours. In all, he hit 17 fours and two sixes. Sibanda, who like his partner is just 21, batted for over four hours for his hundred, striking 16 fours and a six before being caught by Shamsur Rahman off the 18-year-old fast bowler Shahadat Hossain. Mohammad Sharif, who was only 15 when he made his Test debut in April 2001, was the Board XI's most economical bowler, conceding 39 from his 14 overs.
The first Test starts this Thursday (Jan 6) at Chittagong's MA Aziz Stadium, and this is the Zimbabweans' only warm-up match.
