After seeing the Lancashire final pair add an unbeaten 129, Somerset Coach Kevin Shine said: "That last wicket partnership hurt us a bit, especially after they were 58 for 5."
He was full of praise for Glen Chapple who, coming in at No 8, ended with 155 not out.
He said "It was a fabulous record-breaking knock by Chapple, as good as anything I've seen. He played out of his skin.
"We bowled well to get them 195 for 9. All of the bowlers performed well as a unit, and there were two wickets for Matt Bulbeck."
