Justin Kemp will leave Kent with immediate effect after the South African board requested the county release him. The South African authorities are keen for Kemp to get some rest ahead of the World Cup in 2007 and South Africa's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
Kent have already lost Kemp's teammate Andrew Hall who has also been picked for the Sri Lanka tour.
Kent's chairman, Graham Johnson, was understandably disappointed to lose one of the county's big assets. "This situation does highlight how increasingly difficult it is for counties generally to plan their playing resources to deliver to supporters' expectations." He also said that Kent were not keen to release him, but realised that it could be in the player's best interests. "We reluctantly accept the South African Board's overriding wish to ensure that Justin is properly prepared - and are very sorry to see him go."
The club are now looking to find a replacement for Kemp. Hall's spot has been filled by Dwayne Bravo, who will head to the county after West Indies' home series against India has finished.
