JASON Gallian will make an emotional double return to his cricketing
roots over the next three weeks.
Yesterday's NatWest Trophy quarter final draw paired his new county,
Nottinghamshire, with Lancashire at Old Trafford on July 28.
And eight days earlier, Lancashire have arranged a memorial service in
Cheadle for his father, Ray, who died in Australia last winter.
The larger than life character was a popular figure at Old Trafford,
and the service will be attended by many players, officials and
members, as well as Mike Gatting.
Of the quarter final draw, Jason said: "It's typical. I've been
expecting to meet Lancashire again and going back to Old Trafford will
be a strange feeling.
"I've already had Neil Fairbrother on the phone for an interesting
conversation. I still have a lot of family and friends there and they
are going to have mixed loyalties, I think."
Mark Chilton marked his return from Durham University with an
impressive century for Lancashire in their Second Eleven Championship
match against Kent at Canterbury yesterday.
Chilton hit an unbeaten 105 and shared in a huge partnership with Mark
Harvey, who made 93 before Peter Sleep declared on 309 for three.
Earlier, Steve Titchard had scored a half century, but Lancashire's
bowlers struggled and were relying on a Kent declaration today.
