Somerset had the best of the third day of their championship match against Yorkshire at Scarborough, where the 2001 champions finished on 286 for 6, in reply to the visitors 598 for 9 declared.

Resuming on 46 for 1, the Cidermen made an early breakthrough when Matt Bulbeck accounted for Craig White after just four runs had been added.

It was the left armer who struck again when he sent Anthony McGrath back to the pavilion, and Yorkshire looked to be struggling at 89 for 3.

Once again it was Yorkshire skipper Darren Lehmann who came to the rescue, bringing up his own half century before he fell caught and bowled to Keith Dutch after scoring a valuable 64.

Michael Lumb (57) and Vic Craven (51) kept edging Yorkshire towards their intial target of 448 to avoid the follow on, but they were still 88 runs short with only four wickets in hand at the close of play.

For Somerset Matt Bulbeck was the pick of the bowlers, ending the day with 4 for 81.

At the end of the day Somerset coach Kevin Shine told me: "I'm happy with they way that things have gone for us today. We've lost two hours through the rain which hasn't helped, but its been a good hard working performance all round from the boys."

"We need to keep it tight and have a good hard day tomorrow, and look to take their fourteen remaining wickets to get a result."
