Bangalore beat Andhra by six wickets in the South Zone inter-university cricket
championship at the Osmania University ground in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Batting first, Andhra were bundled out for 145. M Nagaraj (3/18) and BS Prakash
(3/20) ran through the side. Bangalore, in reply, scored the required runs
losing four wickets in the bargain. K Kariappa was the top scorer with an
unbeaten 53.
In another match, Pondicherry were defeated by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health
Sciences by nine wickets. After restricting Pondy to 187, the winners reached
the target while losing the wicket of Harshan for 39.
Scores: Pondicherry 187 (Madhan 37, Vishak 4/26) lost to Rajiv Gandhi University
for Health Sciences 188/1 (Rajesh 87 not out, Harshan 39, Santosh 39 n.o).
Calicut 231/9 (AB Ramesh 63) bt Anna 132 (Vikram Kumar 62, M Juby 3/28, Abdul
Raoof 3/16). Andhra 145 (NSG Varma 60, M V Shyamala Rao 30, M Nagaraj 3/18, B S
Prakash 3/20) lost to Bangalore 148/4 (K Kariappa 53 not out, E Ramana 3/47).

Delhi University enters semifinal
Leading from the front with an unbeaten 52, skipper Keshar Chaudhary made sure
of a seven wicket win for Delhi over Aligarh Muslim University to enter the
semifinals of the North Zone inter-varsity cricket tournament at Pant Nagar on
Wednesday.
Batting first, Aligarh Muslim were shot out for 139 in 33 overs. Salman Shamshad
was the top scorer with 47. Delhi Ranji Trophy spinner Rajesh Gehlot (4 for 34)
and Kundan Mishra (4 for 16) were the most successful bowlers for Delhi.
Delhi knocked off the runs with consummate ease in 28.4 overs losing three
wickets in the process. Keshar Chaudhary (52) and Manish Chawla (55) were the
main run getters for Delhi.
Scores: AMU 138 in 33 overs (Salman Shamsad 47, Rajesh Gehlot 4 for 34, Kundan
Mishra 4 for 16) lost to Delhi 139 for 3 in 28.4 overs (Keshar Chaudhary 52 not
out, Manish Chawla 55).
Ranji cricketer Pradeep Jain bereaved
Press Trust of India reported on Thursday that Premwati Jain, mother of Haryana
Ranji Trophy cricketer Pradeep Jain, passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday
morning.
Quoting family sources, PTI said that Jain, 73, was not keeping well for the
past few years. She was cremated at the Geeta Colony crematorium in the capital.
Pradeep, who is a left arm spinner, made his Ranji Trophy debut in 1985 for
Delhi and has had a successful career, having bagged more than 300 wickets in
the national competitions.
