01-Jun-2001
The ICC has published the first Annual Review of its global Development Program. The publication details the structure, staffing, growth and funding of the Program and includes cricketing reviews of the five Development regions: Africa, Americas, Asia, East Asia Pacific and Europe.
The Program is working towards the achievement of five key objectives by 2003, under the headings of:
  • High performance
closing the gap in playing standards between the leading Associates and Full Members
  • Tournament structure
implementation of an integrated and competitive Global Tournament Structure to provide a pathway for all members to compete internationally
  • Participation
increasing ICC membership from its current level of 63 countries to 80 and boosting the number of active participants in Associate and Affiliate countries by 30 %
  • Widening the market
widening cricket's global audience by embracing the diversity of the game and promoting alternative versions of it
  • Spirit of cricket
to reclaim and enhance the traditional spirit of cricket
The Development Program was established in 1997 and is funded by the proceeds of the biennial ICC Knock-Out. The 2000 tournament in Nairobi raised US$13 million, which will fund the Program this year and next.
