Henry Brookes, the highly-rated 18-year-old Warwickshire pace bowler, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a stress fracture of his spine.
Brookes had recently earned a maiden call-up to the England Lions squad during the tri-series involving West Indies A and India A and also spent time around the full one-day squad.
He had taken seven wickets in five T20 Blast matches having bagged 21 in five Championship outings and also claimed nine in the Royal London Cup.
Brookes will now have a period of rehabilitation with the aim that he will return to full training during the off-season.
"Henry has been outstanding for us this year across all three forms of the game, so we're obviously very disappointed to lose him for the remainder of our 2018 campaign," Ashley Giles, Warwickshire's sport director, said.
"He's an incredibly strong character for an 18-year-old and, whilst he is very disappointed to be out of action, he will soon be back working hard to ensure that he comes back stronger in the 2019 season."
