The following is a release from the International Cricket Council (ICC) which is disseminated for New Zealand media interest. [release]
The release advises that an initial visit to India and South Africa has now been undertaken by the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit. That Unit has discovered that the Indian authorities have made no investigation into the allegations of corruption against 15 international cricketers, including New Zealand's Martin Crowe. To date the only evidence against the named players has been a verbal report by Mr. MK Gupta.
The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit has now undertaken to carry out an investigation on behalf of all those nations who have had a player implicated.
The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit has also supported the stance of allowing those named players to continue playing until the investigation is carried out.
New Zealand Cricket has named its own independent inquiry team of Retired High Court Judge, Sir Ian Barker, and Mr Nick Davidson Q.C. This team will work closely with the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit.
