The England women's Under-19 cricket team will play Holland, Ireland and
Scotland's senior teams in The European Cup at Bradfield College, Reading
which starts tomorrow and finishes on Sunday 12th August. Entry to matches is free.
England remain unbeaten in the European Cup since the tournament began in
1989 in Denmark, with many future England stars gaining valuable
international experience in the competition.
Under-19 captain Arran Thompson (Lancs), Laura Harper (Somerset) and Nicki Shaw
(Nottinghamshire) will all play, following their senior caps against
Australia in the CricInfo International Ashes Series earlier this summer.
Arran said: "We have a great record in the European Cup, and we hope to
extend it this year. We haven't hosted the Cup since 1990, so it will be
good to play at home, and added incentive to perform well and make up for
some of the disappointment we had over the summer."
Three players have been selected from County Champions Yorkshire, who
retained their title at the University Grounds, Cambridge, last week.
The Cup also provides John Harmer - the Australian who took over as Head
Coach of the England Women's Team in July - the opportunity to watch some of
the young talent available for future selection. England selectors will
name the squad to travel to India this winter in early September.
