The Punjab Government has honoured one of its most famous sporting
sons, Harbhajan Singh with a cash award of Rs 5 lakhs, a plot of land
and offered him a job in the State Police in recognition of his
outstanding performance in the recent Test series against Australia.
At a function in Chandigarh on Wednesday night, Chief Minister Prakash
Singh Badal handed over to Harbhajan Singh a draft for Rs 5 lakhs and
an allotment letter for a 500 square yard plot of land in his home
town Jalandhar and offered him a job as Deputy Superintendant in
Punjab Police.
The appointment of Harbhajan Singh as DSP will be taken up and cleared
in the next cabinet meeting after a consent in this regard was
received from him, according to an official press release here today.
The off spinner is already an employee of Indian Airlines for which he
turns out in various tournaments.
