Allan Donald, England's new bowling coach, is due to fly home to South Africa between Tests this week following the death of his father in Bloemfontein.
Donald, who has joined the England set-up on a five-week contract, was told his father, Stuart, had died on Sunday morning after collapsing at home.
He will fly home on Monday evening after the completion of the third Test to be with his family and attend the funeral, which is expected to take place on Tuesday.
Donald has had his work cut out in his short time with England's misfiring fast bowlers, although his efforts to remedy the flaws in Steve Harmison's performances seemed to have been paying off on Sunday, when Harmison produced his most hostile spell of the series to date.
England hope that Donald will link up with the squad again in Chester-le-Street later this week, ahead of the fourth and final Test which starts on Friday.
