Devon Malcolm, who retired from first-class cricket at the end of last summer, has shown that he's not quite ready to hang up his boots by signing a one-year deal to lay for Suffolk. He is available to play in all six of their matches in the Minor Counties Championship.
Malcolm, 41, was approached by Kevin Brooks, Suffolk's director of cricket and a former Derbyshire player, last autumn. "Kevin contacted me last year and said 'Do you fancy playing for Suffolk?' and I replied 'absolutely no chance' as I had only just retired and wasn't sure what I wanted to do," Malcolm told the East Anglian Daily Times.
"I told him to call me again in the New Year and I would see how my fitness and training programme was going and if I felt like playing. I feel fine and I want to keep playing, so playing in six three-day games as opposed to almost every day of the season won't be a problem for me. I still love the game and have lots of enthusiasm."
Malcolm will continue to play club cricket in Derbyshire.
