David Hussey set for Nottinghamshire return

David Hussey is set to return to Nottinghamshire as overseas player for the 2013 season. Hussey has played for the club every season since 2004 except in 2008 and 2012 and helped them to the County Championship title in 2005 and 2010. While he has not yet signed, the club have approached him and he has expressed his desire to return.

Hussey's presence in England in 2013 may also help him fulfil his ambition of playing Test cricket. While 35-year-old Hussey has played more than 100 limited-overs matches for Australia, he is yet to earn a Test cap. Australia will be in England to contest the Ashes and Hussey's proximity to the action may yet see him called-up should injury strike the squad. Hussey averages 54.84 in first-class cricket and 64.82 in first-class games for Nottinghamshire.

Meanwhile, financial pressures may prevent Leicestershire signing a second overseas player for the Twenty20 competition in 2013. The club had shown an interest in Andre Russell, but after a difficult year off the pitch, with poor weather and competition from other sporting events gravely hitting the income this summer, it is anticipated the club will declare a heavy loss for 2012. Russell, the 24-year-old Jamaican allrounder, was part of the West Indies team that won the World T20 in Sri Lanka. Ramnaresh Sarwan is the club's overseas player for the rest of the summer.

"Andre Russell is a name that has come up and, if finances permitted, he would be someone we would be interested in," Phil Whitticase, Leicestershire's head coach told ESPNcricinfo, said. "As things stand, though, we are not in a financial position to progress that. It may well be that we are not able to have a second overseas player in 2013."

The club also remain in talks with Niall O'Brien. The Ireland wicketkeeper has a year remaining on his contract with Northamptonshire, but has been given permission to speak to other counties.
