Mark Wallace has been named Glamorgan captain for the 2012 season, taking over from Alvrio Petersen who will be replaced as overseas player by Marcus North.
Wallace, 29, made his Glamorgan debut in 1999 and reached England Lions level before fading from the scene but this season has enjoyed his best Championship season with more than 900 runs.
"This is a very proud moment for me," Wallace said. "It is a great honour to be appointed captain of my county and I hope I can follow in the famous and illustrious footsteps of my predecessors. I am delighted to receive this personal accolade but my job now is to help the team achieve what I know we are capable of, and bring success back to Glamorgan."
Colin Metson, Glamorgan Cricket's managing director, said: "We are delighted Mark has accepted the role of club captain for 2012. He has been a senior player for a few years now and is a very experienced cricketer who can take this team and the club to the next level. The other three candidates, Jim Allenby, Marcus North and Gareth Rees, were all very strong, and the interview panel was very impressed in the way they approached the whole process."
