A maiden unbeaten century from Sewnarine Chattergoon figured largely in Guyana's home victory over Antigua at the Bourda Cricket Grounds, giving Guyana four more points in their quest for Red Stripe Bowl.
In a match that was as noticeable for the home team's performance as for the disciplined crowd behaviour following a previous warning, Antigua won the toss and opted to bat. Expectations, however, fell woefully short as only Ian Tittle and wicket keeper Bertel Baltimore put up any resistance. The Guyanese bowlers were miserly, with Mahendra Nagamootoo being the star, returning figures of 10-3-19-2.
A 69-run opening stand eliminated almost a third of the 182-run target. When Ramnaresh Sarwan fell at 151, after making 36, the result was virtually decided. Shivnarine Chanderpaul carefully turned the strike over to Chattergoon to help him to his ton. Coming on the heels of his score of 58 against Southern Windwards, Chattergoon's ton was an exercise in patience and stolidity. His match-winning knock has ensured that Guyana has stayed undefeated in their three matches thus far in the tournament.
