Cardigan Connor retires

Cardigan Connor, Hampshire's lovably pace bowler for the past 15 Years has announced his retirement from all cricket with immediate effect

Cardigan Connor, Hampshire's lovably pace bowler for the past 15 Years has announced his retirement from all cricket with immediate effect. The first county cricketer to come from the small island of Anguilla, Cardie has taken over 1,000 wickets for Hampshire since joining them from Buckinghamshire 15 years ago.
It had been hoped that Cardie would be able to continue to play a limited amount of one-day matches, but he believed that if he could not give 100%, then he would be letting the team down.
At May's Bounty, Basingstoke on Thursday (10th June), the club presented him with a silver salver and paid tribute to his wonderful career. The presentation was witnessed by Charles Knott who as cricket chairman first brought him to Hampshire in 1984.
Cardie who flew back to Anguilla the next day, stated how sad he was to be leaving behind many of his friends and colleagues. He was given a rapturous reception by the large crowd watching the county match against Yorkshire.
