Attending meetings with the ICC development manager, Ross Turner
were Ricky Craig & BK Atul Rai, USACA, Geoff Edwards and
Martin Vieira, Canada, Theo Cuffy and Bernie Bush Cayman Islands,
Elvin James and Reginald Pearman, Bermuda and Richard Lord and
Grant Dugmore of Argentina. The Canadian Cricket Association
would also like to thank the staff at the Delta Chelsea for their
hospitality.
In addition, David Richards, ICC Chief Executive and Clive
Hitchcock, Cricket Operations Manager had a series of meetings
concerning Americas Development issues. ICC officials were able
to visit some of the new turf facilities for a first hand look.
There was also a day long discussion with the ICC 2001 Canada
Committee regarding detailed breakdowns of the tournament
preparation. ICC Cricket officials were extremely pleased with
the professional submission of the local committee chaired by Ron
Aldridge, with Roger Floyd, Ed Bracht, Martin Vieira, Austin Ward
and Geoff Edwards joining in the sessions.
The ICC officials also were keen to further define hotel
requirements for the ICC 2001 Trophy event and will shortly be
finalizing conditions and the terms required.
These officials must be complimented for the tremendous amount of
work undertaken and completed in a very brief visit even with the
rigours of jet lag and time zone changes.
The team for the U-19 world Cup in Sri Lanka will be finalized
shortly. The Tour Manager and the Cricket Manager (Coach) have
not yet been determined, but are also needed now. It is
anticipated that most of the Americas' team will travel to London
and Sri Lanka via Toronto Canada.
Cricket Week has been changed to April 2000.
ICC and the United Nations in a press release today in Delhi
India have agreed to work together in the future and including
Cricket Week. President Jagmohan Dalmiya and other ICC and the
UN officials must be applauded for innovative and long range
planning. Success must follow such collective efforts.
