Canadian Cricket Association hosts ICC development meeting in Toronto

Attending meetings with the ICC development manager, Ross Turner were Ricky Craig & BK Atul Rai, USACA, Geoff Edwards and Martin Vieira, Canada, Theo Cuffy and Bernie Bush Cayman Islands, Elvin James and Reginald Pearman, Bermuda and Richard Lord and Grant Dugmore of Argentina. The Canadian Cricket Association would also like to thank the staff at the Delta Chelsea for their hospitality.
In addition, David Richards, ICC Chief Executive and Clive Hitchcock, Cricket Operations Manager had a series of meetings concerning Americas Development issues. ICC officials were able to visit some of the new turf facilities for a first hand look.
There was also a day long discussion with the ICC 2001 Canada Committee regarding detailed breakdowns of the tournament preparation. ICC Cricket officials were extremely pleased with the professional submission of the local committee chaired by Ron Aldridge, with Roger Floyd, Ed Bracht, Martin Vieira, Austin Ward and Geoff Edwards joining in the sessions.
The ICC officials also were keen to further define hotel requirements for the ICC 2001 Trophy event and will shortly be finalizing conditions and the terms required.
These officials must be complimented for the tremendous amount of work undertaken and completed in a very brief visit even with the rigours of jet lag and time zone changes.
The team for the U-19 world Cup in Sri Lanka will be finalized shortly. The Tour Manager and the Cricket Manager (Coach) have not yet been determined, but are also needed now. It is anticipated that most of the Americas' team will travel to London and Sri Lanka via Toronto Canada.
Cricket Week has been changed to April 2000.
ICC and the United Nations in a press release today in Delhi India have agreed to work together in the future and including Cricket Week. President Jagmohan Dalmiya and other ICC and the UN officials must be applauded for innovative and long range planning. Success must follow such collective efforts.
