Billy Taylor has completed the much expected signing for Hampshire, he has accepted a three year contract which brings him back to his Southampton roots.
"He is former Hampshire Schools and Hampshire 2nd XI player, a wholehearted cricketer who has improved a lot during his time with Sussex", stated Tim Tremlett, Hampshire's Director of Cricket, "He is a bowler who is always willing to learn and he is looking for a new challenge in the hope of playing regular first-team cricket. It is nice to get him back."
26 year old Southampton born, he also played Southern League cricket for Winchester KS as recently as 2003 season, alongside his brothers James and Martin.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for myself", Taylor told the gathered press at The Rose Bowl. "I always wanted to play for Hampshire, and it feels like coming home. I was disapointed at not been offered a contract all those years ago, but hopefully I have proved my worth at Sussex. I am much fitter able to bowl long spells with more pace, I hit the seam much more so I like to take the new ball."
"Coming to the Rose Bowl" continued Taylor, "is fantastic, what a magnificent stadium.
Taylor a qualified carpenter and tree surgeon (His father insisted he learnt a trade before playing cricket) has been given a fitness regime to work on through the winter, and will keep his hand in playing indoor cricket at Eastleigh's Fleming Park.
