Bhatia and Jadeja shut out Tamil Nadu

Delhi triumphed over Tamil Nadu by 19 runs in a high-scoring game after putting 279 on the board. Rajat Bhatia struck an unbeaten 106, and Ajay Jadeja scored 104, and both put on 203 for the 4th wicket after the bowlers made early inroads.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Delhi had a wicket down before a run was scored, and when two quick wickets were lost a little while later, it would take some doing to recover. In any event, Jadeja and Bhatia did just that. Boundaries flowed as the batsmen ran hard, and hit fours and sixes with ease. The bowlers went in excess of five an over, with Dakshinamoorthy Kumaran and Somasetty Suresh coming in for some unwanted attention. Jadeja was stumped during the final search for runs, but Bhatia held his end up, and Delhi finished at 279 for 5.

Tamil Nadu's innings began with the early loss of a wicket, but the batsmen then proceeded to take the attack to the bowlers. Suresh, whose bowling suffered earlier in the day, got his revenge with the bat and scored 54 in 59 balls, with eight fours, while Krish Srikkanth scored a quick 34 with five hits to the fence. Bhatia then got in on the act and put an end to the 65-run stand, taking out Srikkanth (76 for 2). Suresh didn't last much longer, and it was left to Subramaniam Badrinath and Kuthethurshri Vasudevas to put up a 69-run partnership that got them close to the target. Run-outs put paid to their chances, and at 219 for 6, they were well and truly out of the contest. A few lusty blows later, Delhi dismissed them for 260, to complete a 19-run victory.
