AUSTRALIA v PAKISTAN
Toss: Pakistan
A despondent Border admitted afterwards that it would be a travesty if Australia reached the semi-finals. The loss of their last eight wickets for 56 (of which Mark Waugh scored 30) typified the World Cup holders' desperate campaign. Australia were disadvantaged by batting in the evening, when dew added to the swing of the ball. Earlier conditions were easier, though Aamir Sohail was caught behind off a Reid no-ball before scoring. He then took his personal aggregate to 307 in six innings, putting on 78 in 20 overs with Ramiz Raja and 77 in 16 with Javed Miandad. Steve Waugh's three wickets put a brake on the later innings.
